Kendall College School of Hospitality Management Professor Elected as Vice Chair of the Certified Meeting Professionals Board of Directors for 2012, Chair for 2013
Glen C. Ramsborg selection result of impressive record, contributions to meetings industry
CHICAGO—June 9, 2011—Kendall College School of Hospitality Management Professor Glen C. Ramsborg, Ph.D., CMP, has been elected as the new vice chair of the Certified Meeting Professionals (CMP) Board of Directors for 2012 where he will serve as a voice in upholding the standards of the meeting and event industry. After serving for a year as vice chair, Ramsborg will proceed to the role of chair of the CMP Board for 2013-2014.
“I congratulate Glen on his election by the CMP Board. Glen is renowned for his work to raise the bar of learning for the meetings industry and to advance the art and science of meetings management. These goals are shared by the CMP program and the more than 9,000 Certified Meeting Professionals worldwide. The CMP Board will certainly continue to benefit from Glen’s passion and innovative thinking,” said Karen Kotowski, CAE, CMP, chief executive officer of the Convention Industry Council.
Ramsborg will enter the vice chair position with the experience and vision to increase the depth of knowledge that meeting professionals have and need in order to obtain their CMP. He will also provide insight to academia to better prepare students to meet CMP qualifications when they enter the workforce.
Ramborg’s election to vice chair and chair speaks to his distinguished career in the meeting and event management industry and academia over the last quarter century. After serving on the CMP Board as the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) representative for three years, he was appointed to the first-ever Academic Liaison position by the CMP Board in March, where he represents the academic community in decisions made by the Board. He also served a three-year term as a member of the Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) Standards Review Council, which he completed in March. During that time, he was a key player in redefining the newly released APEX Industry Glossary, issued in January 2011. The APEX Accepted Practices are standards designed by the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry in order to streamline business practices. Dr. Ramsborg worked with 16 other committee members to condense the glossary from 4,000 to 1,500 terms.
Before joining Kendall College as a professor in the School of Hospitality Management in 2009, Ramsborg worked as senior director, education, for the PCMA. In this role, he served as the executive editor of the fifth edition of PCMA’s Professional Meeting Management, recognized as the industry’s premier textbook, and developed the first and most comprehensive online program for industry professionals preparing for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation. PCMA named him “Educator of the Year” in 2003. He is also president of The Ramsborg Group Ltd., a multi-management and educational consultation firm.
