Sports Management Concentration
Kendall College's Sports Management concentration will provide learning that helps prepare students for positions in sports-related fields including sports venue management, sport marketing and sports event management. Sports Management is among the fastest growing industries. The Bureau of Labor Statistics 2012 Occupational Outlook data predicts an increase of 29 percent in jobs in coaching and scouting through 2020, and a 10 percent increase in agents and managers of athletes through 2016.
The international-focused curriculum has been developed by Kendall College in partnership with the Real Madrid Graduate School, Universidad Europea. All concentration classes will be taught online by Kendall-approved faculty from the Real Madrid Graduate School. The Sports Management concentration includes the option of a one-week residency in Madrid, Spain.
Sports Management Concentration Courses:
Business and Economics of Sports Management - Introduces students to the sports industry and its business practices. Focuses on business models, economics, finance and strategy in the sports management industry.
Sports Facilities Management - Discusses the complexity involved in sport facility management. Explores topics including revenue stream development, box office management, crowd management, facility financing and operations.
Sports Marketing and Communication - Examines the best practices and techniques of effective communication in the sports industry. Introduces students to specialized marketing issues like sponsorship rights, fundraising and media rights.
Sports Event Management - Introduces students to the world of event planning for athletic, recreational, entertainment and special events. Students learn how to plan, organize and execute a large meeting or an activity taking place at a sports venue.
Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Sports Management - Demonstrates the role of entrepreneurship in sports management. Focuses on social responsibility and sustainability in sports management.
Sports Management Law, Governance and Ethics - Provides an extensive overview of legal issues including collective bargaining, wage structures and licensing. Addresses the ethical issues and challenges in the sports industry.
One-week residency at Real Madrid Graduate School - Students have the opportunity to expand their international exposure with a one-week learning excursion to Madrid, Spain. Students will learn from sports management leaders and experience firsthand the facilities and sporting venues of the region, including Real Madrid.
